About This Spot

Stepping into Olympic Subs & Steaks feels like slipping into a well-loved neighborhood spot where familiarity and flavor effortlessly meet. Nestled on North Market Street in downtown Wilmington, this modest steakhouse carries the easygoing rhythm of a place where locals pause to savor more than just a meal — it’s about that simple, honest satisfaction from a carefully crafted sub or a perfectly cooked steak.

The atmosphere here hums with the pulse of everyday life: a steady flow of regulars dropping by, quick and friendly exchanges at the counter, and the comforting aroma of grilled meats and fresh bread. Though seating is limited, the focus remains on quality and speed without ever feeling rushed. It's a place where the pace matches the city around it — brisk yet welcoming, practical but never cold.

The menu’s spirit reveals itself through hearty sandwiches piled high with thinly sliced, fresh-cut meats, and balanced by crisp, vibrant toppings chosen with care. Whether you’re drawn to a spicy Italian sub that wakes up your palate or the savory notes of a classic hot corned beef on rye, each bite feels grounded in local tradition and the pride of a kitchen that knows its craft. Beyond subs, there’s a quiet reverence for the kind of straightforward, all-day fare that fills you up and reminds you of home — think crispy chicken sandwiches, robust cheesesteaks, or even an indulgent steak and eggs that linger between brunch and lunch.

With a subtle nod to sweetness, the presence of homemade chocolate chip cookies rounds out the experience, offering a gentle reminder of the care poured into every corner of this small but spirited establishment.

For those who appreciate an authentic taste of Wilmington’s food scene, Olympic Subs & Steaks serves more than just meals; it offers moments. Moments where the focus is on good food moving swiftly from kitchen to hand, on comforting flavors that echo local history, and on a quietly enduring connection between a community and its favorite spot.

I bought a grocery shop today. I had not had a sandwich from Olympics and maybe a year or two but today the roast beef is on point. The festival is on point and they still make the best subs around.

Best hoagie I've had in Delaware. The meats are fresh and sliced nice and thin. Toppings super fresh too

About 15 years ago, I asked a friend “who’s got the best cheesesteaks in town?” He said Olympics. I’ve been going here for my cheesecakes ever since. This place, arguably, has the best cheesesteak in the city of Wilmington. So truthfully, I don’t have much to compare it to because I don’t go anywhere else. Now, the atmosphere. It’s not an eat in spot. Yes, they have a few tables but I think they are more for waiting for your food. There is not much to say on atmosphere here. Its mostly a The service is meh. Folks aren’t real friendly. In 15 years I have never been greeted warmly. I am not sure how to explain their customer service. It’s like non existent but not in an offensive way. It’s like there’s no extra effort put into greeting customers: no hello/greeting, no smile, no thank you, no a pleasant tone, no excitement, no energy, no emotion. It just meh and blah. But the cheesesteaks make the meh and blah service easy to overlook. Oh, and plan to grab chips elsewhere cause theirs are high to the sky!!

I'm a native New Yorker, and this place crushes the sub competition in Wilmington. No one else is better. And the cook Russell is the prime reason why.

Excellent Subs, indeed THE BEST! We travel from NYC to visit family always book our arrival around Olympics hours of operation. We take at least 6-7 Subs back to NYC. We've been going there for years Many of the staff recognize us. Customer service is always outstanding .

The sub was pretty decent with a good amount of meat. They seem to have missed the onion in both sandwiches that were ordered. Service was medium in pace, and only reasonably friendly.

I absolutely love the vibe of this place. It has a timeless, old-school charm that feels like stepping back a few decades. The seating isn’t fancy and the artwork on the walls hasn’t changed in years, which gives it a nostalgic, slightly run-down feel, but in the best way possible. This is a place that Anthony Bourdain would consider a classic American lunch spot. Everything about this restaurant matches that character: the food is classic, comforting, and consistently delicious; the staff are friendly and genuine, making the experience even better. I’ve beenq here multiple times now and it’s become my go-to lunch spot. So far, I haven’t been disappointed and I don’t expect to be any time soon!
